Weekly Column: Summer is an opportunity to connect one-on-one with constituents

Week of July 10, 2017

Summer provides the perfect opportunity to explore all the finest things the Kenora riding has to offer. Whether it’s time spent out on the lake or camping at your favourite spot, spending sunny days in the North is time well spent.

For me, the summer months are an opportune time to visit communities around the riding and connect one-on-one with constituents. Spending time in the North allows me to reflect and focus on the priorities of the region.

Over the course of the summer, I will be holding constituency clinics during my visits to Sioux Lookout, Dryden, and Kenora. If you are not close to those locations, there will also be clinics in Red Lake, Ignace, Pickle Lake, Machin, and Ear Falls, to name a few. I encourage you reach out and have your voice heard.

Summer is also the perfect time to renew your passport at one of my passport clinics. If you are applying for the first time, we can help with your application and photo or, if you are simply looking to renew your passport, we can guide you through the steps. Although a lot of northerners stay in the riding during the summer months, having an up to date passport is a good idea if you decide to travel outside of Canada.

During my time away from Ottawa, I’m also afforded the chance to visit the 42 First Nation communities in our riding. It is an opportunity to visit each community in order to get a first-hand look at how projects are developing and to meet with community members and Chiefs and Council. It’s also clear to me that we need to find immediate short and long-term solutions to the suicide crisis that is sadly affecting many of our First Nations youth in the riding. I assure you that I will continue working with all levels of government to bring this issue to the forefront.

There are many things to do in our great riding over the summer. I’m looking forward to sharing summer with you and continuing to work together to improve our beautiful corner of the world.

I hope you keep an eye on my Facebook page /BobNaultMP and local advertising for upcoming constituency days and passport clinic dates. You can reach my constituency office at 1-866-710-0008.
