(KENORA) November 11, 2018 – The Honourable Bob Nault, Member of Parliament (Kenora riding) released the following statement on Remembrance Day.

“Today we join with Canadians to reflect on our freedom and remember those – past and present – who have served our country and sacrificed for it.

“This year marks several significant anniversaries. On this Remembrance Day, we mark the 100th anniversary of the end of World War 1, and the sacrifices our veterans made to protect our way of life. It is also marks the 100th anniversary of Canada’s Hundred Days.

“During those 100 days, thirty brave Canadians and Newfoundlanders received the Victoria Cross for defending freedom, from August 8 to November 11, 1918. This event alone represents nearly one third of all Victoria Crosses that have been awarded in our military history.

“Recently, the Department of National Defense announced the renaming of the Kenora Armoury after the late Private David Kejick.  The Distinguished Conduct Medal he earned on October 1, 1918, makes him the highest decorated soldier from the Kenora region.

“The re-naming of the Armory is more than just a testament to Private David Kejick’s bravery, it is also an acknowledgement of the contribution of all Canada’s Indigenous peoples. To honour their service, we must ensure their stories are never forgotten, and that their actions stay alive in our memories and hearts.

“Keep the fallen in your minds and their families in your heart. It is their immense collective sacrifice that has helped keep our country safe and free.

We will always remember.”
