(Kenora, ON.) January 08, 2019 – The Honourable Bob Nault, Member of Parliament for Kenora, on behalf of the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, announced $96,000 under the Government of Canada’s Clean Water and Wastewater Fund (CWWF) for Mishkeegogamang First Nation.
“Water and wastewater treatment facilities play an important role in maintaining healthy communities and a higher quality of life,” stated Nault. “Projects such as upgrading the backup power supply for the water treatment plant in Mishkeegogamang First Nation, will help to improve the safety and quality of water for those living in the community.”
Of the funding announced today, the federal government is investing up to 50 per cent of funding for this project—$96,000. As part of the Government of Canada’s long-term plan, more than $2.8 billion will be invested in green infrastructure projects throughout Ontario. These investments are part of an agreement between Canada and Ontario.
“I would like to congratulate Chief David Masakeyash and council on their dedication in securing this CWWF funding, and for their ongoing dedication to the people of Mishkeegogamang First Nation,” concluded Nault. “Investments such as this will result in cleaner and safer water for people to drink and the protection of our waterways.”
- For the 10 projects announced today, the federal government is providing $4,349,912. The provincial government is providing $2,174,956 and the recipients will cover any remaining costs.
- Through the Investing in Canada infrastructure plan, the Government of Canada is investing more than $180 billion over 12 years in public transit projects, green infrastructure, social infrastructure, trade and transportation routes, and Canada’s rural and northern communities.
- $26.9 billion of this funding is supporting green infrastructure projects, including $5 billion available for investment through the Canada Infrastructure Bank.
