(RED LAKE) Thursday, April 20 – Member of Parliament for the Kenora Riding, Bob Nault, today announced that the Government of Canada is investing $120,000 in support of two community projects in the Municipality of Red Lake. The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for FedNor.
“I am very pleased to be making this announcement today, as these investments will enhance the quality of life for local residents in Red lake. It will also assist local decision makers when they undertake long-term municipal strategic planning and decision making. Our government recognizes the importance of creating safe spaces for families to gather and the positive impact they can have on children, who will grow up with a sense of the importance of their community,” said Nault.
Provided through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program, a FedNor investment of $100,000 will enable the community to modernize its community playground. Originally created in 1967, the existing playground requires retrofitting to ensure it remains safe for users of all ages. The funding will enable the municipality to upgrade seating areas, install new playground equipment, and pour a new concrete pad to accommodate a new Splash Park at the facility.
An additional $20,000 will be provided under FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program to assist the Municipality of Red Lake in engaging the services of a consultant to help determine the feasibility of constructing a new multi-use facility in the community. The purpose of the study is to define potential tourism and business opportunities, enhance partnership efforts with neighbouring First Nations communities, and explore regional events and sports tourism opportunities to assist in economic diversification for the community.
Together, these strategic investments will support business development and growth, and infrastructure enhancements that deliver community and cultural benefits for local residents.
- FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program supports projects that promote sustainable community economic development, enhance business development and growth, and facilitate innovation throughout the region.
