Government of Canada Invests More Than $1 million in Support of Waterfront Development and Increased Tourism in Sioux Lookout

(SIOUX LOOKOUT) Tuesday, April 18 – Bob Nault, Member of Parliament for the Kenora Riding, is pleased to announce today an investment of $1,035,863 in support of two projects with the Municipality of Sioux Lookout. The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for FedNor.

I am very happy to see our government investing in the development of both the Town Beach and Tourist Information Centre in Sioux Lookout. This investment in the revitalization of the waterfront, along with our support for the upgrades at the Tourist Information Centre, will deliver positive, long-term results for the people and businesses of Sioux Lookout. As we diversify our economy, tourism is taking on a larger role and I am glad to see Sioux Lookout moving forward with its plan, which has been 10 years in the making,” said Nault.

Of the total, $1 million will be provided through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program in support of infrastructure development at the Farlinger Park/Town Beach. This investment will help revitalize the waterfront and link it to the downtown business district, making it a key destination for tourists and events, while enabling business growth and new development.

The remaining $35,863 will be provided through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program to support the construction of a playground and a pavilion structure to enable gatherings and community events at the Sioux Lookout Tourist Information Centre.

These priority infrastructure initiatives will enable business expansion, job creation and increased tourism through the revitalization of key municipal assets.
