(KENORA) June 8, 2017 – The Honourable Bob Nault, Member of Parliament for the Kenora riding, today issued the following statement regarding the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care’s investment of $2.5 million in capital funding to assist the Lake of the Woods District Hospital with covering the cost for early capital planning to redevelop and replace the hospital.
“I am extremely pleased to see the provincial government is committed to improving the health care services offered in the riding of Kenora. It is common knowledge that the Lake of the Woods District Hospital is one of the oldest hospitals in Ontario. It services a number of communities and First Nations and must be able to meet those needs. This new health facility will significantly help improve our quality of life overall in the region.
“This announcement is a good first step and I am happy to see the hospital board working closely with all of the stakeholders to ensure an All Nations Health System is developed. We recognize that health care must now take a more holistic approach, and being able to house all services on one campus will be a phenomenal addition to our riding.
“I would like to congratulate all of the people involved behind the scenes who worked hard to secure this capital investment. I look forward to working with you in the future, as we continue to make Northwestern Ontario one of the best places to live in Canada.”
This funding will help the hospital, in accordance with the Ministry of Health Capital Planning Guidelines, to complete the early stages of planning for an All Nations Hospital within an All Nations Health System for the Kenora area.
The LWDH Board has a Building a Future Committee that will be developing a work plan in conjunction with our partners and the NW LHIN to move forward with the capital planning process. The hospital will be providing the public with regular updates as the process moves forward.
