Nault pleased with more than $3M investment in airports throughout Kenora riding

(KENORA) June 14, 2017 – The Honourable Bob Nault, Member of Parliament (Kenora riding), on behalf of the Honourable Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport today announced investments in four airports across the riding.

“In the North, airports play a vital role in not just transporting people, but also providing essential goods and services, such as food, fuel, and air ambulance transport. Unique terrain and often severe weather conditions require that these airports always put safety first,” stated Nault. “These investments, totaling $3,152,943, will help to ensure the safe operation of these remote, rural airports.”

Funds will be used to replace airport infrastructure, such as: runway, taxiway, threshold/end and apron edge lights, airfield guidance signs, wind direction indicator, airport beacon, and apron floodlight; and replace electrical conduit and cabling.

The funding comes through Transport Canada’s Airports Capital Assistance Program (ACAP). Since the Program’s launch in 1995, the Government of Canada has provided more than $781 million for 898 projects at 182 airports across the country.

“With these upgrades, airports in Cat Lake, Fort Severn, Red Lake, and Webequie, will be able to carry out their essential service with improved safety for passengers, pilots, and airport employees,” stated Nault. “Increasing access to safe and efficient air travel in rural and remote areas will benefit the region as a whole and help usher in economic prosperity.”
